What is important when looking at dental implants?

Teeth can be lost for a number of reasons such as an accident, disease, or poor oral hygiene. And tooth loss hurts. The good news is that missing teeth can be functionally and esthetically restored. These days many patients choose dental implants.

What are dental implants?

Every tooth consists of a root and a crown. When a tooth is lost, an implant can take over the function of the natural tooth root. After implantation, the bone grows around the dental implant, firmly anchoring the implant in the bone of the jaw. The individually prepared restoration (crown, bridge, denture or fixed arch) can be screwed on to the implant replacing your lost tooth/teeth.

Dental implants have been scientifically proven for more than 30 years and have become an established treatment method. Implant treatment is used to improve oral health and increases the quality of life over the long term.

When is an implant an option?

Implants are the ideal solution for many situations when a single tooth, several teeth, or all teeth are missing. Even for large gaps in the teeth, a fixed dental restoration using implants is possible. Dental implants can be used at an adult age (not children and adolescents who are still growing). Certain diseases and heavy smoking can also be contra-indications for implant treatment. Ask your dentist if you are qualified for implants.

Single-tooth

If a single tooth is missing, you can restore this with an implant and crown, without grinding down your neighbouring teeth for a bridge.

Multiple missing teeth

Even when you miss more than one tooth it can be solved with implants. The implants act as pillars for attaching a dental bridge.

Edentulous jaws

Even if all the teeth are missing, there is no need to settle for an unstable full denture. Implant solutions for fixed or removable dentures provide stable retention and comfortable handling.
